[SK E&S] SK E&S Spreads Its “One Meal–Sharing, Warm Contact Project” Nationwide

“From Iksan and Seosan to even Chuncheon …”
SK E&S spreads its “One Meal–Sharing, Warm Contact Project” nationwide in Korea
- “Sharing a Warm Meal” extended nationwide in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do Province; Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do Province; and Iskan, Jeollabuk-do Province with subsidiary companies

On February 25, SK E&S (CEOs Yu Jeong-joon and Choo Hyeongwook) announced the nationwide implementation of the “One Meal–Sharing, Warm Contact Project,” which involves delivering lunch boxes to the most vulnerable class in the local society, including the elderly living alone.

The company announced on February 25 that it held a signing ceremony for the “One Meal–Sharing, Warm Contact Project” with the Chuncheon Municipal Government at the Chuncheon City Hall. The project will entail supporting the delivery of free lunch boxes for 3 months to 100 elderly people living alone in Chuncheon City. SK E&S delivered a donation of KRW 55 million to the Chuncheon Nambu Senior Welfare Center during the ceremony. Gu Hyeonseo, the head of SK E&S Social Value (SV), Chuncheon Mayor Lee Jaesu, CEO Park Gyeongsik of Gangwon City Gas, and other major stakeholders participated in the ceremony.

The project goes beyond simply providing lunch boxes and was intended to vitalize the local business. In line with this, the food ingredients will be purchased from merchants in Chuncheon’s traditional markets to not only solve the problem of the most high-risk class skipping meals but also contribute to the local economy through job creation.

The “One Meal–Sharing, Warm Contact Project” is an activity pursued in line with building a “safety net” that SK Group Chairman Chey Taewon has emphasized every time. As many local governments have stopped operating free meal centers because of COVID-19, the safety net is falling apart. As such, major companies of the SK Group are supporting free meals in different corners of the country for the most vulnerable class, which has difficulties securing immediate meals.

In addition to Chuncheon, SK E&S has donated a total of KRW 120 million to Iksan and Seosan to support the daily provision of simple meals and lunch boxes for about 3 months to senior citizens who lack nutrition in the 2 regions. Moreover, a collaborative system with local microenterprises and citizens has been built to purchase food ingredients and prepare and deliver lunch boxes, thereby generating jobs for the elderly and spurring the local economy.

Because SK E&S is engaged in the energy business nationwide with local bases, it is working hard to serve as a safety net and contribute to solving the local society’s problems. The company has actively financed the “Localize Gunsan” project of supporting youth startup teams for the urban regeneration of the Gunsan region since 2019. Furthermore, it has generously donated about KRW 4 billion last year for win-win cooperation projects that help local societies overcome the difficulties posed by COVID-19. As such, SK E&S is widely supporting efforts made for local economic entities to recover their competitiveness.

“We hope that the current project’s free meals will be delivered with warm love to neighbors suffering from the difficulties posed by the extended duration of COVID-19. We will cooperate with not only Chuncheon but also various other local governments and stakeholders to lead the practice of social responsibility,” Gu said.
