SK E&S (
www.skens.com), on Tuesday (Aug. 25), launched a voluntary activity to clean up the environment of Namhansanseong Fortress, one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites erected in Namhansanseong Provincial Park in Korea.
Some 50 executives and staff members of Hanam Energy Service and Wirye Energy Service that are affiliates to SK E&S showed up to clean up the no.2 exploration route of the said fortress (approx. 3km) with the cooperation from Namhansanseong World Heritage Center.
Namhansanseong, which is the biggest natural resort in a metropolitan area, has been receiving more and more tourists from both home and abroad ever since it was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in June 2014. Given that the constructions that are underway in both the west and north side of the fortress for building Wirye New Town and Misa Gangbyeon New City respectively are only likely to rapidly drive up the number of tourists, Namhansanseong is currently in dire need of sustainable management of its environment.
Separately, Hanam Energy Service and Wirye Energy Service are both in the process of constructing a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Hanam and Wirye region respectively. Hanam’s plant is expected to go into full operation by late 2015 and Wirye’s plant in early 2017. Aside from the recent environment clean-up activity, staffs of the two plants are also participating in other various programs such as Hanam City’s ‘House Repairing Assistance of Love’ and other voluntary activities every month.
“SK E&S will continue to take part in the environment clean-up activity of Namhansanseong Fortress to lead the way to preserve the UNESCO World Heritage. Also, as an eco-friendly energy company, we will keep up with other social contribution activities to protect the environment nearby our power plants,” said Lee Wan-jae, Sr. Executive Vice President of Power Business Division at SK E&S. <The End>
