At the forefront of the fight for a cure for children with asthma caused by PM (particulate matter) stands a private energy company.

On June 2nd SK E&S (CEO Yu Jeong Joon www.skens.com) held a signing ceremony for a memorandum of understanding with Korean Green Foundation and Community Chest of Korea to help finance medical treatment for children with asthma who come from low-income families.

The foundations will work with the local education office, community health center, and a partner children’s hospital to select 30 applicable children in Seoul and provide support for medical treatment while consistently monitoring their condition for the next five months until full recovery.

The beneficiaries will be provided with air purifiers, indoor fine particulate sensors, and particulate filter masks. More support will be provided via a professional organization to offer customized lifestyle enhancement measures to eradicate potential causes of asthma and other respiratory conditions.

This October, a children’s camp is also scheduled as individual follow-up and educational programs to raise the awareness of environmental protection and our response to particulate matter.

This is more than just a one-off CSR project, as SK E&S plans to increase its efforts to support this cause over the longer term.

Until they turn 18, the beneficiaries will have their treatment financed through regular annual check-ups, and the company will add another thirty children every year.

SK E&S CEO Yu Jeong Joon said, “Our support for children with asthma is the first step in helping to relieve the particulate matter problem in our society, The Company will work hard to assist the underprivileged in resolving social ills.”

SK E&S is an energy affiliate of SK Group, which is focused on eco-friendly LNG development and city retail gas.
